CLEAR 4G and the Eye-Fi Card
I wanted to share with you how I use the Eye-Fi card and CLEAR 4G Internet together.
First, the Eye-Fi card is a SD Memory card for your camera. As I take photos, the images are downloaded to my laptop via WiFi, but must of the time, I use the Ad-Hoc system. I have tested this outside and have been able to get about 50 to 60 feet away from the laptop and the images have no problems with downloading. I have the Eye-Fi software set to upload to my Zenfolio account and sometimes to my Facebook page.
Then, I use the CLEAR 4G service for internet. I can be outside, and be able to connect to the internet on the 4G network. I don’t have to rely on open WiFi networks. CLEAR gives me a strong signal in 4G areas.
My recent event:
I do work for Cox Radio – Houston. When Taylor Swift was in town for two concerts, The New 93Q did a live broadcast in front of the Toyota Center. We were outside, by the street. Using both the Eye-Fi card and CLEAR, I was able to take photos and they were uploaded to the Facebook page within seconds. We were able to show listeners the photos online, while our competing radio station had to wait until late that evening before they could load their photos on their website. This system was a big hit. People would ask me to take their photo and then they would call someone to tell them to look online. Top management from the station were there both days and they were impressed with how fast photos were online.
Using this system could be a big advantage to event photographers. It could even be used at weddings. While shooting a wedding, photos could go online fast for those that were not able to attend, to see the photos. With the Eye-Fi software, you can set the preferences so you select what is posted. Being able to upload the photos online fast, from almost any location using CLEAR, it has big advantages.
